Workers in Stevenage could be in line for redundancy as electronics firm Fujitsu has confirmed it is to shed 1,800 jobs in the UK.

The company which makes computers, employs 693 people in Stevenage at its plant in Cavendish Road in a wide variety of roles.

A spokesman for the firm said no decision had yet been made on which of its UK offices would be affected by the job losses and the first workers would not leave until next year.

The firm also said the cuts are not linked to Brexit.

Last week, Fujitsu’s shares jumped in value after reports it could sell its computer business to rival Lenovo.
