Sandy Town Council have appointed a new mayor and deputy mayor.

Councillor Michael Scott was elected to serve as mayor at a council meeting on Monday, replacing Councillor Colin Osbourne.

He spoke of his pride at being appointed, saying: “It will be an honour and a privilege to serve as mayor of Sandy.”

Councillor Martin Pettitt was elected as deputy mayor.

At the meeting, both in the incoming and outgoing mayor thanked councillors for their hard work, with Mr Osbourne and his wife Diane thanked by members for their efforts over the past two years.

With his tenure as mayor coming to an end, Mr Osbourne donated £1,360 to his chosen charities, the 1st Sandy Scout Group, 22 Sandy Squadron Air Training Corps, the Army Cadets and the Guides Association.

Town clerk Chris Robson told the Comet discussions regarding Mr Scott’s chosen charities have taken place and while they have not been finalised, they will be local causes.
