Mid Beds District Council has received a planning application to build a privately-run car park with almost 400 spaces for vehicles close to Arlesey Railway Station.

If it goes ahead it could relieve the parking by commuters in nearby roads that has caused anger among residents.

The plan from Poppyhill Properties Ltd for the Tottering Farm Partnership proposes that the car park would be on land on the west bank of the River Hiz adjacent to the west platform of the station.

The site would cover around one hectare of an existing plantation of poplar trees. Existing trees on the site are at a size ready to harvest says the planning application and the timber will be used for fuel.

Access would be off a slip road from the A507 giving good pedestrian access across the bridge to the station.
