A NEW Meals on Wheels service has been rolled out in Comet country.

Hertfordshire County Council and Stevenage Borough Council have agreed a new scheme aimed at ensuring as many older and vulnerable people as possible receive quality meals to their door in Stevenage.

Since the start of April meals have been delivered by Hertfordshire Community Meals (HCM), an independent, not-for-profit agency based in Letchworth GC rather than the previous private contractors.

Specially designed vans now heat the meals en route and a range of meals and special diets are catered for.

Many staff from the previous contractor have transferred to the new agency, so in many cases people will receive their meals from their usual driver.

Chief executive of HCM, June Jumaily, said: "I am confident that older and vulnerable people will continue to be provided with nutritious meals and a friendly service."
