A POPULAR secondary school has appointed its new headteacher.

Knights Templar School, in Baldock, has named Andrew Pickering as the man who will take over as its seventh headteacher at the beginning of the next academic year.

A keen cricketer, Mr Pickering is currently the deputy head of a college in Cambridgeshire. He begins his new job on September 1 and the Knights Templar governors are expecting him to maintain the school's high standards.

Mr Pickering takes over from Peter Chapman who retired at Easter.
