A new department store is set to open in Stevenage.

Debenhams has submitted plans to open a new store on the town’s Roaring Meg retail park.

Phil Huby, of Roaring Meg Retail & Leisure, said: “We are delighted with the proposed store and are looking forward to investing further in Stevenage and the continued regeneration of the scheme.”

The store will provide 200 new jobs for the area. Work is expected to start on site later this year with the anticipated store opening for Christmas 2016.

The news comes after it was revealed that Homebase, also based on the Roaring Meg site, had entered a consultation period concerning the closure of its store.
