A COUNCIL has launched a cashless payment system for parking.
The scheme, introduced last week, allows motorists to pay for parking at North Hertfordshire District Council car parks by phone using their debit or credit card for an additional 20p charge. Text reminders are also available to alert drivers when their parking is about to run out, and stays can be extended over the phone.
Tom Brindley, the authority's portfolio holder for planning and transport, said: "We hope that offering a cashless payment alternative that also allows people to top up their parking on the phone will prove to be a welcome initiative by our residents and visitors."
