Mystery Jets made an unpowered landing in Letchworth on Friday afternoon for a special acoustic set on the day their album was released.

Fans of the rock band were treated to a first listen of Curve of the Earth in the cosy confines of David’s Music and Bookshop.

Although it was another coup for the David’s team – who have also had the likes of Ash and The Thrills through their doors – it was in fact the Mystery Jets lads who got in touch.

The band are doing a series of free shows in independent record stores across the country to support the album’s release.

And it wasn’t a first for David’s, after Mystery Jets performed in the Eastcheap store 10 years ago for the release of their first album – and only illness ruled them out of a second appearance in 2010.

David’s Music manager Andy Oaten said: “It’s always difficult to know how many people will be able to attend a working or school day event but we were very pleased with the numbers and subsequent sales of the new album.

“They went down really well here and popped behind the counter afterwards to sign copies of the new album and chat to fans.

“They signed some extras and customer orders – for those who couldn’t make it – too so we have signed copies still available now.

“The band seemed very happy with their performance and complimented the shop on our stock, as well as our tea, coffee and cake.

“They all spent some money on vinyl and CDs, and headed off at about 2.30pm to the south coast for their next performance in Portsmouth at 6pm.

“All in all it was a real pleasure to have such a great band play for free in Letchworth at David’s Music and we’d welcome them back anytime.

“And they are a really nice bunch of lads, too!”

The following day the band – whose new album has been reviewed on the same double page spread as the late David Bowie in NME – played on Dermot O’Leary’s Saturday Session on BBC Radio 2.
