Sixty-one pupils enthralled parents and staff in Hitchin at Highover JMI and Nursery School’s annual summer concert.

The students, aged seven to 11, showcased their musical talents on instruments including saxophone, clarinet, violin, cornet and recorder.

Alto saxophonist Marcus Varley, 10, said: “It was great fun. I enjoyed it. This was my third concert and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made.”

Eight-year-old clarinetist Joe Holman added: “This was my first concert and I was excited to perform in front of such a big crowd. A special thanks to my teacher, Miss Tye, for helping me.”

Acting deputy head Sophie Driver said: “The concert was a fantastic opportunity for our musical pupils to showcase their talent and hard work.

“The pupils’ confidence to perform and enjoyment of the evening shone through and the audience were wowed by the high standard of music performed.”

Music leader Vanessa Atha thanked all the children, parents and staff involved for their hard work ensuring the night was a great success.
