A 17-year-old youth has again been remanded in custody charged with the murder of Stevenage teenager David Paine.

Mr Paine, 17, of Leaves Spring, died from a stab wound to the chest following an incident at a party near his home in Broad Oak Way a week ago last Friday.

The teenager charged with his murder, who also comes from Stevenage, appeared by video link at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on Tuesday from a young offenders unit.

He will appear in person before magistrates on March 21 when a date for the case to be heard at crown court will be decided.

Stevenage magistrates will also reconsider his custody terms and any possible bail application on February 21.

Mr Paine, a former pupil at Barnwell School, lived at home with his mother, stepfather, three brothers and sister.

He was well-known in the town for his off road biking and worked at Marshall's Cycles at the Roebuck shops.

Friends left dozens of bouquets of flowers outside the shop with messages of sympathy.

A statement from his family said: "David was a charmer. He was very social and had a lot of friends and was a kind and thoughtful man. He lived for bikes.
