North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald and Save the Children’s Hitchin branch chairman have met at parliament and discussed the charity’s global efforts.
Sir Oliver and Dr Jane Kirk met at Portcullis House on the International Day for the Eradication of World Poverty and talked about the work Save the Children does in areas like women’s and girls’ education, clean water and aid in re-establishing communities after conflict.
Sir Oliver said: “It was good to meet Dr Kirk and to hear about the work which Save the Children are doing to eradicate poverty and the important contribution being made by British aid. Dr Kirk certainly spelt it out to me and I shared her enthusiasm for helping those in developing countries.”
Dr Kirk said she had enjoyed their chat over tea, adding that Sir Oliver was a lifelong supporter of the charity with a consistent House of Commons voting record in favour of overseas aid funding.
