MID Beds Tory MP Nadine Dorries is taking legal action over allegations in e-mails sent by Prime Minister Gordon Brown's former special adviser.
Ms Dorries was one of three Conservative MPs, including leader David Cameron, named in the e-mails sent by Downing Street aide Damian McBride.
McBride later resigned after the smears were made public.
Ms Dorries said on her website at the weekend: "I have instructed and proceeded with legal action. Obviously, I am not going to say anything at all at this stage, other than that."
Ms Dorries received a personal apology from Mr Brown when she confronted him over the allegations at Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons last Wednesday.
Ms Dorries asked the Prime Minister: "Would you like to take this opportunity to apologise to me for what happened?"
Mr Brown responded: "Yes. And I have said sorry this has happened and I have also written to you personally.
