AN MP has taken the views of traders worried about the redevelopment of a town centre to the organisation behind the proposals.

Oliver Heald, MP for North East Hertfordshire, met with shopkeepers from Letchworth GC to discuss Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation's £60million plans.

He has now taken up their concerns with the Foundation and has pledged to report back to the shopkeepers.

Mr Heald said: "I think it is important that they should have community backing so I've been very interested to hear what they [the traders] think about them [the plans]."

Speaking about the proposed redevelopment, Mr Heald said: "I thought it was good that we were looking at developing Letchworth because I do think there is a need to see if we can get some quality stores like John Lewis in Letchworth.

"But I do think these points about the balance of retail and residential are important and I want to know what the Heritage Foundation says about it.

"I wouldn't say I'm dead against the idea of development because I'm not but I do think the traders made some good points.
