Boro boss hopes to bring in one or two new faces this month

JOHN Mousinho’s recovery from a metatarsal injury has taken a setback with the midfielder now back on crutches and in a protective boot.

It was hoped he would be back in training by now after injuring his foot back in November, but he received bad news from his consultant this week after further scans and his manager Graham Westley refused to speculate how long the player would be sidelined for.

“I haven’t got a clue,” said Westley. “Mous hasn’t recovered as quickly as we would have liked. It’s been a long road for him, he’s had another scan and he’s not had the news we’d all hoped for – we hoped he would be back in training by now – so it’s tough for him. But haven’t the boys done well in his absence.”

The news has prompted Westley to look at possible transfer targets during this month’s window to bring in as cover for Mousinho.

“There’s a lot going on. [This week] I’ve made a number of enquiries about players who could be available both on a short-term and permanent basis and I may well, especially in light of the Mousinho news, dabble in the market.

“But its about stability and consistency – it’s about keeping players together who know each other and the systems [we play]. Don’t expect massive changes but there might be one or two things at the fringe.”
