MOTORISTS driving through a country lane flooded with a pool of rain water have created an unusual frozen scene.

Water splashed onto hedgerow lining Redcoats Green, between Hitchin and Stevenage froze following the recent cold spell.

One motorist driving along the road on Wednesday sent in a photo of the area.

Ken Ward of Fishers Green in Stevenage said: “It was the most usual thing, very eye-catching. Obviously people driving by have splashed the water onto the trees which has built up over time and frozen, creating the most amazing long icicles.”

Mr Ward said it was the first time he had seen anything like it.
