A driver suspected of committing road traffic offences sped away from police by running through a red light in Stevenage on Tuesday.

At 9.45am the motorist driving a vehicle with registration X745CNB, first evaded a police car in St George’s Way. The vehicle was then seen travelling along Monkswood Way and Broadhall Way.

A roads policing officer followed the vehicle until it reached Junction 7 of the A1M, where the driver mounted a grass verge and went through a red light to evade the police car.

PC Andrew Burnett, who is investigating the incident said: “This motorist’s speed and the nature of his driving showed no concern for the safety of others driving along busy roads in Stevenage.

“The volume of traffic was high at this time and I urge anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch with me by calling the non-emergency number 101.”
