IN little more than a week, Stevenage's star striker could fulfill every schoolboy's dream.

Steve Morison was plucked from relative obscurity in August to become one of the leading marksmen in the Conference this season.

Now the 23-year-old, previously part-time at Bishop's Stortford after starting his career at Northampton, cannot wait to step out at the new Wembley Stadium for Boro's FA Carlsberg Trophy final clash with Kidderminster Harriers.

And Morison, who has scored in every round so far, wants to complete a dream first season by finding the net at the world famous stadium and inspiring his side to success a week on Saturday.

"To play in front of a big crowd at the best stadium in the world - what could be better?" he asked.

"The Trophy semi-final win against Grays has to be the highlight of the season and scoring the goal which put the game to bed."

Morison was working in an office and playing part-time at Stortford when he signed in August.

Morison admitted: "I can't really complain, can I?

"Going to Wembley is certainly better than going to Weston-Super-Mare on a Tuesday night!

"I'm quite a confident person and I was always sure I would score goals and it was just a case of how hard it would be.

"I've scored 34 goals and played virtually every game apart from when I was suspended.

"It's credit to the players I've played with.

"I was playing with George (Boyd) at the start and when he left, I was alone up front and I still scored.

"We've played in the Trophy with one up front so we will see what happens.

"It's been superb playing with a great bunch of players, management and the tremendous facilities."

Boro finished eighth in the Conference to miss out on the play-offs and the opportunity of reaching the Football League.

Morison continued: "To be in with a shout of the play-offs with three games to go, after the start we had, was good. We will rebuild over the summer and look to do better.

"The crowd have been superb and stuck with us even at the start. I think they knew we would come good in the end.

"This game at Wembley is as much for them as it is for us, the players.

"It'll be brilliant for everyone; it might be my only time there and I want to make the most of it.

"And of course it would be great to score the winner!"

Morison still has a year left on his contract at Broadhall Way plus another year's option.

"It will be harder next season but I'm sure we'll be stronger as a squad. And I'm only going to be better for the experience of this season."

The man who recruited Morison, Boro boss Mark Stimson, is obviously delighted with his star striker.

Stimson said: "For someone to step up a level and, more importantly, go full time and cope with it like he has, has been fantastic.

"It has been a pleasure to watch from the sidelines.

"Steve is an honest lad and he sets himself a high standard.

"He knows it will be harder next season as people will be more aware.

"We are both looking forward to next season and I would be very surprised if he wasn't a Stevenage Boro player next season.
