THE Bedfordshire Country Show promises to be bigger and better than ever this year.

Held in the grounds of picturesque Shuttleworth Park, the show will boast three arenas over this weekend, July 8 and 9.

There will be many established events but joining the show for the first time will be the Adams Axemen from Dorset, Cyril the Squirrel and a terrier racing display team.

Returning this year will be a sheep show and popular displays of working dogs, falconry and fishing.

In one arena there will be show jumping and the Shetland Pony Club will be holding its usual annual event and there will be a special dog show.

Throughout the weekend, visitors will have the chance to see the workings of an historical village where many old and traditional crafts will be demonstrated by enthusiasts who are keen to keep these important skills alive.

There will also be a craft tent and food marquee as well as over 100 trade stands and a rabbit marquee where part of a national competition will be held.

Visitors will also be able to have a go at many of the activities with children being invited to take part in competitions.

"The show has grown so much since it started that it is now taking over the south park showground at Old Warden," said Phil Gooden, one of the organisers and owner of the Bird of Prey Centre at Old Warden.

"This has given the organisers the opportunity of expanding the show and bringing in new and exciting things for people to see and do."
