More former Arsenal players have been lined up as guests to help mark Hitchin Town’s Floodlight Inauguration Match on Thursday.

The family of Gunners legend Geordie Armstrong – who played 621 games and was at Arsenal for 27 years – will attend including his daughter Jill.

The news comes 54 years after the popular winger played in the original match between Hitchin and Arsenal.

Georde, sadly died at the club’s London Colney training ground in 2000 when he was reserve manager under Arsene Wenger, but has had a pitch there named in his honour.

Top Field will also see David Court – who played 175 matches and scored 15 goals in his eight year Highbury career – come along. Billy McCullough, who played 268 games for the North London giants, netting five goals will also be there.

A delighted Roy Izzard said: “David well remembers the original game and he has a particular connection to Hitchin as his wife was originally brought up in Balmoral Road.

“David and Billy are looking forward to returning to Hitchin. Sadly they informed me a number of the 1962 team have passed away.

“I am indebted to Marje Armstrong, Geordie’s wife, and his daughter Jill for their help.

“I can also confirm Derek Turner, Terry Waldock, Peter Hammond and Tommy Everitt from the Hitchin 1962 side will be there too – so it should be a great night of nostalgia.”

Hitchin Town v Arsenal XI. Thursday, November 11. Kick off 7.45pm. The club have designated it as a pay what you want game to reward supporters for their loyalty. A large crowd is expected so come early.
