Of the new building at Shefford Lower School by the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Samuel Whitbread who praised the school for its performance and the welcome he received from the children when he visited the school during the previous week. Local MP Nadine Dorries was also amongst the guests from various bodies associated with the school and past members of staff. Following the official ceremony the children spectacularly released balloons which sailed out of sight in the bright sunlight. Guests were then invited into the school for light refreshments and musical entertainment performed by the children celebrating past decades. This year marks the 130th anniversary of a school on the site and many residents will have attended school in the Victorian building which still stands on the site. The day was touched with sadness as this week Mrs Lesley Rushton retires from the school having taught there throughout her teaching life and has taught some of the parents of present pupils and some younger members of staff and was presented with a bouquet from the school governors and thanked for her support for the school over the years. Visitors were then invited to tour the school, with school council members acting as guides.
