Archant

This is how fans at Hitchin’s Victoria pub celebrated last night as England finally overcame their penalty shootout hoodoo against Colombia.

Eric Dier scored the winning penalty at Moscow’s Spartak Stadium after hero goalkeeper Jordan Pickford kept out Carlos Bacca’s spotkick with a magnificent left-handed save.

The Three Lions’ first-ever World Cup penalty shootout win sent England fans across the globe into raptures – and the mighty celebrations at The Victoria in Hitchin were captured on video by Darren Fisher, who filmed the moment from behind the bar.

Gareth Southgate’s men looked to have come through a bad-tempered dogfight thanks to Harry Kane’s penalty early in the second half, but Colombia’s Yerry Mina equalised in the dying moments of stoppage time.

Thirty minutes of extra time failed to celebrate the sides, before the young England team exorcised the demons of shootouts past with a 4-3 spotkick win.

England now face Sweden in the quarter-finals in Samara at 3pm UK time on Saturday.
