THERE was misery for two people just before Christmas when they lost sizeable amounts of cash.

Perhaps they thought they would never see it again but now they could unexpectedly be reunited with their missing money.

The owners of two separate amounts of cash which were found on different days in Hitchin town centre are being sought by police.

The first find - of £300 - was near to the market on December 22 at 4pm.

The second - of £240 and made by a police officer - was in Market Place at 3pm on December 24.

Hitchin property officer Alan Hale said: "People must be missing this money especially with it being found so near to Christmas.

"I would like to hear from anyone who thinks that this money may be theirs and we can hopefully give them a good start to the New Year."

The owners of the money must prove that it belongs to them before it is handed over.

Any genuine calls to claim the money should be made to the Hitchin property office on 01438 757638.
