The minor injuries and illness A&E service at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage has reopened 24 hours after it was suspended.
The service had to be halted at 12 noon yesterday as doctors and nurses struggled to cope with an influx of emergency cases.
Non-emergency patients had to travel to the QEII in Welwyn Garden City to be cared for.
Nick Carver, chief executive of the East and North Herts NHS Trust which runs the hospital, said: “I would like to thank everyone – both clinical and non-clinical staff – for their exceptional efforts across the Lister and the new QEII over the last 24 hours to continue to care for our patients.
“Our thanks too to local people for their co-operation and understanding during the last 24 hours.”
