THE hot summer sunshine was recalled last week when the awards were handed out to Stevenage in Bloom winners.

The happy recipients were presented with their trophies by town mayor Simon Speller.

Joan Brown from the In Bloom Forum said: "Like previous competitions, Stevenage in Bloom 2006 was a huge success and it was an absolute pleasure to be involved.

"Many residents, both young and old, and businesses entered the various categories and we were treated to some very interesting and beautiful garden displays. Congratula-tions to everyone who took part and thank you for your marvellous efforts.

"Your hard work and pride in the town also played a big part in Stevenage's success in this year's Anglia in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions."

Local businesses, including The Comet, sponsored the awards.
