A surgeon who regularly swaps his scrubs for chef whites to indulge in his passion for fine dining takes his eye for detail from hospital to home in the pursuit of excellence.

Adam Frosh is an ear, nose and throat surgeon at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, where he has worked for the past 15 years, but what many people may not know is that Adam is an amateur chef and creates culinary works of art in the kitchen.

Adam has written a book – Surgeon in the Kitchen: Hosting an Elegant Dinner Party – which includes everything from recipes to tips on etiquette and table displays.

Adam, who recreates table settings from ITV series Downton Abbey, measuring the correct distance between the cutlery, said: “I developed the skills of fine dining because I always marvelled at it in restaurants and wondered if it could be recreated at home.

“I did some things from a book and they turned out rather well, and then I went on a residential cooking course.

“I began entertaining people and they thought it was fun and started dressing for the occasion.

“The book is about great recipes, but it also shows you how to organise a seven-course banquet for people. It makes it possible and takes away the mystic about it.

“At its heart, it’s about how to make people feel special, because we all like to be pampered.

“I enjoy food, wine and people. Nothing is better than that. It’s about taking that celebration as far as you can.”
