POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a masked raid on a jeweller's.
Robbers wearing balaclavas threatened staff at Glenray Jewellers in Hitchin with a sledgehammer on Friday before making off with jewels in the daylight raid.
The two men walked into the Market Place shop at 5pm and threatened two members of staff before escaping with an unknown quantity of jewels in a black Vauxhall Vectra, registration KP55 FYK.
The car was later found abandoned in Old Charlton Lane in the town. Detectives think the robbers may then have made off in a white van.
If you have any information about the robbery contact Det Sgt Ellis on 0845 3300222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
