Of Home Close wishes to thank the many people who supported his sponsored cycle ride which took place recently. Martin had hoped to raise £1,000 for Garden House Hospice at Letchworth and was delighted that the final amount including Gift Aid totalled just over £1,200. With his cycling partner Steve, Martin cycled from St Malo in France to Bilbao in Spain covering 638 miles in eight days. The ride was during the recent heat wave in Europe with dehydration being a great problem. Martin was dogged with punctures, having nine during the first four days. He lost his helmet, bike lock, cycle pump, a lens from his sunglasses as well as his marbles one bad day. When they reached Spain they celebrated with a great night in Bilbao. Martin vowed that he would never attempt a ride like that again like that again, but now thinks that Madrid to Marrakesh sounds like a good idea for 2007!
