A sight not seen on a High Street in over 50 years attracted hundreds of people at the weekend.
Shoppers flocked to Stevenage Old Town on Saturday to experience the first market to be held there since 1961, when the former general market moved to the new town. Many arrived on a special service classic green double decker bus which ferried passengers from Stevenage bus station throughout the day – a sight familiar to older residents, as the same vehicle was used in the town in the 1950s.
The farmer’s market was held in the former Market Place, opposite the White Lion – where traders have sold their goods since the middle ages.
