A man was twice stabbed through a car window in Letchworth on Wednesday, and police have today appealed for witnesses to the “shocking incident”.

The attack happened at about 6pm, when two men were sat in a silver Peugeot 206 parked on Radburn Way, on the Jackmans estate.

A man knocked on the passenger-side window, which the victim then opened. The attacker reached through and stabbed him in the chest twice.

The attacker then ran off towards Swanstead. The driver of the vehicle drove home before calling an ambulance.

The victim was left with two lacerations to his chest that required stitches at hospital.

Police are following a line of enquiry that the offender is known to the men in the car and that this is not a random attack.

Det Sgt Hannah Treadwell, who is investigating, said: “This was a shocking incident, but thankfully despite being shaken up the victim was not seriously injured.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the offence and witnessed it take place to please get in touch as soon as possible as you could have information which could prove to be crucial to our investigation.”
