POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured when a car crashed into a tree at the weekend.

A grey Ford Mondeo travelling from Luton towards Hitchin left the A505 on Saturday evening and headed up the slip road towards Lilley, where it collided with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from Luton, suffered minor injuries while the passenger, also a 19-year-old man from Luton, was trapped in the vehicle following the crash.

Fire engines from Stevenage and Hitchin attended the scene shortly after 9pm and eventually cut the passenger free from the wreckage.

Both were taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, where the passenger is being treated for serious injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the Mondeo travelling with four other vehicles prior to the collision, to contact them on 0845 33 00 222 as soon as possible.
