An appeal has been launched to find a man who police believe has exposed himself to women in Hitchin on four separate occasions.

Police are linking the four late-night incidents to the same man, who is described as Asian – of Indian origin – and in his mid-20s or 30s.

He is of a large, chubby build, around 6ft tall and has short, dark hair.

The latest indecent exposure took place on Friday at 11pm when a woman was approached in Periwinkle Lane.

Two weeks earlier, on July 4, another woman was targeted between 10.30pm and 11pm while sitting in a bus stop in St Michael’s Road. The man was seen in the area again by the same woman on July 12, driving a blue Vauxhall Astra.

Two other late-night incidents have been recorded by police, one in Nightingale Road in May and another in Bearton Road in April when the man struck up a conversation with the woman before exposing himself.

Investigating officer Sgt Guy Westwood said: “To have a spate of incidents such as this in Hitchin is rare. I am appealing to anyone who thinks they may recognise the man described to please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Have you seen someone in the area who fits the description and drives a blue Vauxhall Astra?”

Anyone with information can call police on non-emergency number 101.
