TWO witnesses are being sought, after a man was assaulted outside a Hitchin supermarket, leaving him with a broken nose and facial injuries.

The incident happened about 12.20pm on Tuesday, December 27, outside Sainsbury’s. The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered a broken nose, injuries to the eye socket, and cuts to the face.

Police are now making a further appeal for two witnesses to come forward.

“From the inquiries we have carried out so far, we are now aware that there were two possible witnesses to the incident we would like to trace and I am appealing to them directly to contact police,” said assistant investigator Quentin Lane, from the Local Crime Unit in Hitchin.

“A lady spoke with staff at Sainsbury’s a few days after the incident and I would encourage her to contact me in confidence. A man, who is described as black, in his 20s and wearing a blue top, was also seen at the front of the shop at the time of the incident and I would like to appeal to him to contact police.”

If you are one of the two possible witnesses described, please call AI Lane via the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number G1/11/3575, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You do not have to give your name and could be entitled to a cash reward.
