A MAN twice caught with child pornography on his home computers has been jailed for six months.

Myles Pope was first arrested in October last year after police found 893 images of children on an old computer hard drive he had left at his parents' home in Guilden Morden.

They asked him if they would find further images on computers at his own home in Rosemont Close, Letchworth GC, but he said there would only be a few.

However he later went on to assist them in locating 1,230 downloaded indecent pictures of children and was charged with further offences in April this year.

On Friday, 26-year-old Pope appeared at Luton Crown Court to be sentenced for a total of nine charges of having indecent photographs. He had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Vivian Goddard, prosecuting, said the majority of the images fell into the two least serious categories, but one was in the most serious and 18 in the second most serious.

He told police that Pope had begun accessing child pornography in 1999, and seemed unable to stop.

Steven Pidcock, defending, said: "He is something of a victim himself. He will not do well in prison. He has 'bully me' written all over him.

"He has learned his lesson. This has been a wake up call and he is very remorseful and assisted police as much as he could."

The barrister said custody would lead to the loss of Pope's engineering job and possibly his home.

Judge Jeffrey Burke QC said: "I am told that you now understand why this sort of offending is so serious.

"Everybody who downloads images is aiding the corruption and exploitation of the children involved. It leads to misery and degradation.

"For you prison will be far from easy, but there is no alternative, despite the strong personal sympathy I have with your situation."

Pope was also banned from working with children.
