A Stevenage man has been jailed by a court in North Wales after trying to blow up a petrol station.

Wayne Shepherd, 34, tried to ignite a petrol pump with a lighter in a Tesco service station in Holyhead after telling staff they had ten seconds to close the shop before he would blow it up.

A staff member quickly shut off the fuel supply and a customer ran after Shepherd and kicked him in the chest as he tried to light petrol from a pump.

Shepherd dropped the nozzle and lighter as terrified drivers and families looked on.

The judge at Caernarfon Crown Court told Shepherd he posed a "significant risk of reoffending" and sentenced him to a minimum of three years.
