A POTTON man appeared in court on Tuesday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Nelson Eddie Smith, 47, of the Myers Road caravan site, faced Bedford magistrates accused of causing the death of Richard Guymer, 23, who was struck by a vehicle while walking along the A603 between Sandy and Bedford on Saturday, October 7.
Smith is also charged with failing to stop and report an accident, and having no insurance or MoT.
He is also charged with five other offences relating to a road collision earlier on the same day in West Way, Moggerhanger. The charges are for failing to stop and report an accident, criminal damage to a BMW car and having no insurance or MoT.
Magistrates granted Smith conditional bail pending his trial at Luton Crown Court on February 26.
The conditions mean Smith must live and sleep at an address in Myers Road, report to Biggleswade police station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9am and 5pm, must not sit in the front seat of any motor vehicle and also provide a surety of £2,000.
