A Letchworth teenager has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a schoolgirl on Bonfire Night in the town.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested at 11.30am today in Letchworth, following what police have described as a "swift and intensive investigation" that included a CCTV image appeal launched yesterday.

The alleged incident happened at about 4.15pm on Tuesday - it was reported than an 11-year-old girl was followed by a man walking along Norton Way and Glebe Road in the town, who then came up and grabbed her. The victim screamed and the man walked away - she was unhurt in the incident.

The teenager is currently in custody at Stevenage police station.
