A man has pleaded guilty to commercial fly-tipping offences in Letchworth, and must pay a total of £760 in fines, legal costs and compensation.

Noah Uddin, of Martindale Road in Hemel Hempstead, admitted to two fly-tipping offences committed in March this year.

The fly-tipping occurred in Blackhorse Road after Mr Uddin was turned away from the nearby Household Waste Recycling Centre.

He had attempted to dispose of controlled commercial type waste at the HWRC, which only allows for the disposal of domestic household waste.

Upon exiting the site with the waste still in his vehicle, he dumped it on the highway verge outside.

The waste consisted of various items including an office desk, office chairs, carpet tiles and whiteboards.

He was charged for fly-tipping and for being in control of vehicle while fly-tipping, and was ordered to pay a £230 fine, £500 in legal costs and a victim surcharge of £30.

North Herts District Council’s executive member for environment, Councillor Bernard Lovewell, said: “Failure to properly dispose of any type of waste is not acceptable and we will take action against anyone caught.

“There are safe and legal ways to dispose of commercial and domestic waste such as hiring a registered licenced waste carrier.”
