A DEVOTED family man jumped from a railway bridge to his death after suffering from "mental turmoil".

Simon Dawson, 51, of Angells Meadow in Ashwell, was found dead at the bottom of Viaduct Bridge in Digswell, Welwyn Garden City on April 11.

An inquest held at Hatfield Coroners' Court last Thursday heard that his wallet, a small bottle of vodka and a diary containing a suicide note were found after a search of the area.

He was described as "kind and gentle" and a "devoted family man" by his wife Melanie.

Coroner Edward Thomas gave the verdict that Mr Dawson "took his life while the balance of his mind was disturbed".
