A man has been charged in connection with a £16m drugs haul.

Knoll Bryan, 72, of Solon Road, London, has been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs after a lorry containing 40 kilos of heroin was searched in Letchworth GC.

The search occurred when the driver of the lorry became suspicious of the load he was transporting and called the police.

Bryan appeared before Hatfield Remand Court yesterday (Tuesday) and has been remanded in custody to appear before St Albans Crown Court on December 2.

A 54-year-old woman from London was also arrested in connection with the inquiry. She was questioned on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug. She has been released on bail to return to a police station on January 10, 2014.
