A 50-year-old man has been charged after people were held against their will when vehicles were stolen in Hertfordshire last week.

James Conners was arrested in Northampton on Wednesday following a police pursuit in connection with a string of crimes across Hertfordshire.

Properties were targeted in a spate of burglaries in Little Acres in Ware, Saffron Close in Hoddesdon and London Road in Hertford Heath. A man was taken against his will when offenders stole his vehicle in Baldock and a woman was also taken from Fulling Mill Lane in Welwyn when her car was stolen.

Two men made off from the scene and enquiries are ongoing to locate them.

The two victims are now both safe and well and were not injured during the incident.

Mr Conners was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, robbery, two counts of kidnap, dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance, and appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on Friday.

He is due to appear at St Albans Crown Court on February 2, and has been remanded in custody.
