A man needed hospital treatment after being attacked with scaffolding bars and a crowbar by three men on Wednesday evening.

Police are appealing for information about the incident, which occurred in Jackmans Place, Letchworth GC, between 6.45pm and 7.15pm.

Three men, described as white and speaking with Irish accents, got out of a white Ford Transit van and assaulted the 25-year-old victim.

He was left with a graze to the head and a bruised ankle and was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage for treatment.

DS Pete Hankins, from the North Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “This was a serious but unusual incident to have occurred in Letchworth and fortunately the victim escaped with only minor injuries.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything unusual around the time of the incident or saw the white van to contact me as soon as possible.”
