A trusty police dog tracked down a man who fled from his car when stopped by police in Baldock during the early hours of this morning.

The man fled from the wheel of his silver Vauxhall Corsa when stopped by officers in Clothall Road at about 12.50am.

Blue, a German Shepherd, was called in with his handler to help with the search, and he tracked the man through gardens and over fences.

The driver, a 30-year-old Londoner, was soon found in a garden off Hillcrest and detained.

He has been arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, and remains in police custody.
