A man has been arrested after police stopped a van on the A1(M) and chased two suspects on foot during the early hours of this morning.
Patrolling officers from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit spotted a ‘suspicious vehicle’ near Junction 10 for Baldock Services as it headed southbound at about 3.50am.
The police car followed the van and brought it to a stop near Junction 9 for Letchworth Gate, before both men inside made off on foot.
A 23-year-old man from Houghton Regis was detained and arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal. He is currently in police custody.
The second man was not detained and a police spokeswoman said that ‘enquiries are on-going’.
