TWO people charged over the so-called jigsaw murder case in which dismembered parts of a man's body were disposed across two counties went on trial today (Tuesday).
Detectives launched a murder hunt after a right leg was found in a sports holdall in a field at the side of the A507 between Baldock and Cottered on March 22 last year.
In the following weeks other body parts were found in Wheathampstead, Puckeridge and Standon in Herts and the victim's head in Leicestershire.
The murdered man was 49-year-old kitchen salesman Jeffrey Howe, of Southgate London.
At St Albans Crown Court today, Stephen Marshall, 37, of Ayot Path, Borehamwood and Sarah Bush, 20, of Pickard Close, Southgate both denied murder.
Marshall pleaded guilty to two counts of perverting the course of justice by giving false information about the whereabouts of Mr Howe when police were conducting inquiries and disposing of the parts in different places to impede the investigation.
