A 55-year-old man has been charged with four offences after an incident at Hitchin railway station allegedly involving a machete.
Trains were temporarily unable to call at Hitchin on Monday night after reports a man had pulled some sort of blade out of his bag on a train at at about 8.30pm.
There was a large emergency service presence at the station afterwards involving both British Transport Police and Herts police officers. Nobody was injured.
Mark Thurston, 55, of Walnut Tree Avenue in Cambridge, was arrested at the scene.
Yesterday, he was charged with possession of a pointed article in a public place, possession of cannabis, using threatening, abusive or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and two counts of assaulting police constables.
He has been released on bail, and is next set to appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on February 28.
