M&S is to depart from its traditional practice and introduce outlet sections in four of its high street stores, including one in Comet country.

In March, part of M&S in Stevenage will begin carrying clearance lines as well as continuing to stock the latest season's ranges and food.

The format has already been adopted at the Lewisham store in south London, and in March will also be introduced at stores in Wood Green in north London and Slough.

Nick Bullock, M&S's head of outlets, said: "We have identified four stores in locations where we think shoppers would benefit from a choice between our great value outlet merchandise and the existing food and clothing offer. There are no plans to make this change in any further stores.
