A man has been charged with a whole host of driving offences after a police chase in Hitchin culminated with a car being forced to stop by officers having mounted the pavement.

The pursuit took place on Thursday last week, ending at about 2.30pm in Queen Street when a patrol car rammed a grey VW Golf against railings close to the junction for Hollow Lane. It followed a collision with a red Vauxhall Astra.

Michael O’Brien, 20, of Dunstable Road, Luton, has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a valid licence. He was detained ahead of a court appearance.

A 23-year-old woman from Luton was arrested and received a caution for possession of a class B drug.
