Make a date in your diary on Monday if you’re looking for a new challenge that can give your skillset a step up.

The Citizens Advice Bureau in North Herts is on the lookout for new volunteers, and there’s a recruitment information morning at its Hitchin office on Monday.

If you can’t make it to Thomas Bellamy House in Bedford Road you haven’t missed out – information mornings take place around six times a year and the next one is in July.

Training supervisor Rosie Waters said: “Volunteers contributed more than £350,000 worth of work last year.

“Roles in the bureau vary hugely – it’s not just about giving advice. We also need receptionists, assessors, administrators, social policy campaigners, fundraisers, IT support, trustees and people who can help us maintain our premises.

“If you have a skill it is likely we can use it!”

More than 75 per cent of the CAB team is made up of trained volunteers.

Getting involved can give jobseekers a real boost, with one in three going on into paid work or education. Volunteers receive first class training and without them the service would not function.

Herdish Dhatt from Hitchin volunteers for one day a week working on the reception desk and with admin work. She said: “I’ve only been with the CAB for a few months but I love it. My ‘normal’ job is working in a nursery with babies and small children so it’s great to do something completely different and have a different challenge every week.”
