Stevenage Borough Council’s Christmas lights switch on show should be in safe hands this year when Stevenage FC goalkeeper Chris Day pushes the button in the town centre on Thursday, November 30.

A packed programme of music is lined up with appearances from Herts soul singer Decosta Boyce and Adele tribute act, J’Adele.

Christmas lovers will have the chance to meet Mr and Mrs Claus and husky dogs, as well as enjoy a giant snow globe, and fairground rides and stalls.

A firework finale brings the show to a close at 6.30pm after the lights have been switched on by the long-serving Stevenage FC stopper.

Following the fireworks display, Stevenage mayor Pam Stuart will be drawing the winner of a £150 Westgate shopping voucher for those people who have taken part in the council’s town centre events survey. To be in with a chance of winning, complete the survey here before Monday, November 27.

Late-night shopping is on offer at stores across the town centre and free car parking is available from 3pm at St George’s Way multi-storey, Westgate multi-storey, Marshgate, and The Forum.

Councillor Stuart said: “It’s great for me to announce that our Christmas lights switch on show is in safe hands with Stevenage FC goalkeeper Chris Day turning the lights on. Chris is well known in the town for all he has done for the football club so I’m thrilled he will be joined by a host of music talent and entertainment to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.”

Chris added: “Turning on the Christmas lights is a real honour and I am excited to have my finger on the button this year. It is an event I have attended many times over the years and, seeing as I am coming up to my 10th year at the club, I think the timing is perfect.”
