A fundraising group is trying to raise as much cash as possible to help a single mother from Baldock who wants to have a second mastectomy.

Polly Simpson was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2012 and underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy at Bedford Hospital while pregnant with her second child.

After giving birth to her son Alfie in April of last year, she received more chemotherapy and made the decision that she wanted to have her other breast removed to prevent the cancer returning.

However, after testing negative for the BRAC 1 and 2 gene which confirmed she is not a gene carrier, she said her request for the surgery was refused by the NHS.

Lolly for Polly are trying to raise £10,000 to finance a private operation for Polly so that she can have a second mastectomy and reconstruction work.

So far the group have raised £7,000, and hope to swell the coffers with an Old Skool Disco night at The Tudor Oaks, just off the A1 near Baldock, on Saturday at 7pm. To purchase disco tickets call Lynn on 07715 335187.

There will also be a raffle which concludes on November 28.

Lolly for Polly administrator Keith Willison said: “I believe that Polly has been let down badly by our own NHS and I aim to make sure she gets the treatment she rightly deserves.”
